Plas Dolerw is a late-Victorian mansion built by the Newtown entrepreneur, Pryce Jones. The house has a symmetrical entrance front with columned portico but it has lost the Italianate tower which gave distinction to an otherwise conventional main elevation. Plas Dolerw is now owned by a charitable trust and the principal rooms are offices and meeting-rooms. The central stair hall survives relatively untouched and retains the wainscotting apparently made for the plas, which includes charming roundels variously carved with plants/floweres but also with wren and woodpekker at the stair. The fireplace in the former (?dining-room) has a carved panel incorporating Pryce Jones's initials and the date 1883, which presumably dates the completion of the mansion. RFS/RCAHMW/July 2011.
