A natural feature 100m NE-SW x 25m wide x 4m high. This is the probable firing point for the target point at NPRN206206 500m away. It gives good all round vision, and the hillside behind the target point acts as a natural butt. There is no evidence of any attempt to alter the feature.
The portrayal of a rifle range on early editions of the Ordnance Survey 6-inch and 25-inch plans suggests the range was in use during both the First World War and the Second World War.
