Description
The Ramparts is an early nineteenth century house named after the medieval defences of the town which run through the site. It was once a pair of houses, the one to the right being the Horse and Jockey Inn according to the tithe map of 1839. It is constructed from large stone blocks that may have come from the castle, though they could equally have come from the quarries beneath the castle that were worked by inmates of the town gaol.
