Type Of SiteBURNT MOUND
PeriodBronze Age
DescriptionA burnt mound located on a north-facing slope measures 16m (NE-SW) by 10m and 1.4m high on the north, merging with rising ground on the south. Some damage has been caused by animal burrowing which has exposed blackened earth and jagged, fire-cracked stone fragments and coarser grades.
Crescentic in shape, it lies open to the south-east towards an unmarked tributary of a stream which follows a more deeply incised course to the west. Surrounded by boggy ground, the mound forms a well-drained, bracken grown 'island'.
