Description
The site was converted into a dairy in the late 1940s from a former corn mill (nprn 80538) dating from 1862. It was noted in 1947-8 as being operated by Midland Counties Dairy Ltd. although the site was still annotated "Cil-Cewydd Mills (Disused)" on the Ordnance Survey 6-inch provisional edition map of 1948. The mill was rail-served by a siding from the adjacent Cambrian main line and this siding was probably retained by the dairy, as it is shown on the 1948 OS map. Visible remains dating from the conversion include canopies, a water tank, concrete floors, pipework and extended loading bays. According to local information, the Milk Marketing Board took over 'a nearby farm' in 1948 as an Artificial Insemination centre.
