Description
An earthwork enclosure of irregular shape is located within Parc le Breos, near Parkmill in Gower. It lies on the east side of Llethrid Cwm, part of an afforested, steep-sided, branch-like limestone gorge. It occupies the steeper west-facing slopes of Parc Cwm very broadly following the contour. In particular, part of the upper, east, side follows closely the scarp slope that descends into the cwm.The enclosed area is almost 9 acres (3.6ha) and is bounded by a curvilinear bank forming an irregular perimeter line of about 1.25km. The overall dimensions of the enclosure are some 380m (N-S) by 200m. It is defined by a bank of earth and stone, averaging 2m wide and 0.6m high, ditched externally and possibly once hedged. The bank is intermittently visible, and in places slight, but well-preserved extents can be seen at SS53289050 (on the east) and SS53379038 (south-east). The more level ground above the east side is now occupied by a pheasantry.

Woodland was first recorded here in the thirteenth century (NPRN 303001) and subsequently became incorporated in the deer-park of the de Breos lords of Gower (300001). Documentary sources indicate medieval management of the woodland which continued, after disparkment, until as recently as the nineteenth century. This enclosure was surveyed for the first edition OS maps and was therefore a more visible parcel of land, detached from nearby farmed land. Its origin in early wood management is thus possible.
