DescriptionOn farmland at Battle, 168m above O.D., is a blunt-pointed sandstone monolith about 1m square at the base. It leans slightly to the E and stands 3.96m high swelling to 1.22m at the broadest, giving the impression of being top-heavy and sits at the S end of a stony mound 10 m long N.-S. and 0.9m high - possibly originally a cairn. The nearby tumulus (at SO 0060 3075, 190m above O.D.) mentioned by James, is the spoilheap from an old quarry. Another mound-like feature in the field incorporating fieldstones is probably modern.
