Description

Close to the river, on a slight terrace above it, lies a building of two, possibly three compartments. The stone and boulder built structure comprises a large bay (possibly subdivided), with a second compartment at the N end and a third one at the S end.
The overall dimensions of the affair are 15.6m (N-S) by c.4.6m. The central bay, the most substantially built, measures 6.4m (N-S) by about 4.6m overall, the E side having partially slumped down the side of the terrace which appears to have been revetted at this point. Walls are c.0.7m thick and 0.4m high, overgrown with grass and moss. There is an entrance gap on the W side. There is some slight evidence for a partial cross-wall towards the S end of the compartment. Abutting the N end is a narrower bay measuring 3m square overall, much ruined and defined by walls c.0.7m thick and 0.2m high. The third compartment is below the S end of the central bay and measures 6m (N-S) by 4m overall. It is bounded on the N by the S end of the central bay and the terrace upon which it is built, on the W by the revetted side of the river cutting, and on the S and E by walls of boulder construction, 1m wide and 0.3m high. There is an entrance in the NE corner.

Outside the entrance to the central bay is a slightly raised grassy area which may represent a former annexe c.13m long by 4m wide.
