1. Low scarps and a broad spread bank help to define the limits of the presumed Iron Age defended enclosure at Banc-y-Gaer, Blaen Plwyf. (source Os495card; SN57SE5)

2. Parchmarks on air photographs show greater complexity than the earthworks alone. Main earthwork bank, c. 68m long, forms semicircular rampart on south side only. Inner enclosure is subcircular, c. 50m diameter, with palisade trench within visible as parchmarks on summer aerial photographs. APs also show scatter of pits within the enclosure.

3. The findspot of the Glan-rhos Bronze Age shield in a bog 0.7km to the south east of this defended enclosure may be signifcant, and may be related to an earlier settlement on this site.
