Description
Flavian period pottery was discovered during construction work in Pumsaint in the late 1960s and excavations in 1972-3, 1985 and 1989 confirmed the existence of a Roman military site. Dating evidence suggests that the site began as an auxiliary fort in the mid AD 70s and that this was reduced in size around AD 100 before eventual abandonment in the AD 120s. A large timber building was constructed in the later third or fourth centuries, but it is not certain whether the defences were maintained between the early phase and the later phase.

The site forms part of the Dolaucothi-Pumsaint Roman settlement and mining complex (NPRN 402260).
