Description
Claerwen is a late nineteenth century storeyed farmhouse with a central stair passage plan. The farm buildings to the south of the house include, in a single range with a pegged king-post roof, a cowshed with central feed passage, a hay barn and a loose-box or calf-pen. The ruins of an earlier house lie between the present house and farm buildings.

The 1905 Ordnance Survey map shows the earlier building, as does the first edition map of 1891, and according to Erwyd Howells, the present day farmhouse at Claerwen was built in 1922. He also reports that the farmhouse was damaged during the Second World War by military training activities. It is still occupied today.
