DescriptionDrum Slate Quarry was worked from the 1860s and its peak output of 532 tons was achieved in 1872, when it employed 30 men. By the time of the 1891 OS map it was disused. The quarry complex is a series of large and small quarry pits (nprn 536752, 536778, 536779, 536789), levels (nprn 536743, 546754, 536775, 536777), and spoil tips (nprn 536745, 536749, 536772, 537782, 536787, 536791, 536792, 536793, 537042). Some of the early levels were exposed by later, large-scale excavations. Various buildings survive, including shelters for trimming and splitting the slate (nprn 536744, 536770, 536771, 536790), weigh houses at the tips (nprn 536747, 536750, 536794, 536835, 536837), and mills (nprn 536708, 536776, 536783, 536784, 536785, 636808). Slate was exported by means of an inclined plane (nprn 537043) with associated winding house (nprn 536769).
