DescriptionTy Mawr, the Great House (NPRN 306219), was built for Sam Hopkins, ironmaster of the Blaenavon works (NPRN 34134) in about 1800. It continued as a private or corporate residence until 1924/5, when it became a hospital. It is now a nursing home.
The original house was a south-west facing three storey late Georgian mansion set in extensive grounds (NPRN 265939). It has been added to and modified on several occassions. A fire escape has been built against the main facade.
