Description
Victoria Dock was completed by 1874; walls of snecked rubble stone with flat copings enclose a harbour measuring some 210m by 90m. Cast iron mooring posts are spaced at regualr intervals around the dock. The seaward side has a low parapet and a cobbled slipway to a landing pier is on the outer or north west side. The dock entrance is rounded on the south side; both sides of the entrance are resessed where there are stone steps, with an additional lower flight of concrete steps now concealed behind modern timber stanchions. The landward side of the harbour has a dry dock, facing the entrance.
