Ammanford Urban District Coundil acquired the land in 1923 which sits on a 10-acre site that was once part of Tirydail Farm. In 1934, financed by a public subscription fund, the Council embarked upon an ambitious course of improvements – a bandstand, a miniature golf putting course, children's playground, the reconstruction of the bowling green and tennis courts, pathways and tree planting. The park's design was laid out 1935 by J.O. Parry, and the opening ceremony was held on 14 May 1936, performed by Lord and Lady Dynevor. The park features a bandstand, pavilion, tennis courts, bowls club, and cricket square. A tennis pavilion once stood but has since been demolished. In 1937 a set of Memorial Gates (NPRN: 419458) were erected to the park's entrance at Iscennen Road in honour of the fallen of the First World War. The gates subsequently commemorated the fallen of the Second World War. The gates, which cost £100 in 1937, are listed as Grade II by Cadw, The cricket square and pavilion is used by Ammanford Cricket Club. A new 'splash pad' replaced the old paddling pool in 2013.
