DescriptionGlanrhyd Hospital was originally opened in November 1864 as the Glamorgan County Lunatic Asylum at Angelton, Bridgend. The asylum was managed by a committee of visitors appointed by the Quarter Sessions. Accommodation for 350 patients was initially provided at Angelton, but in 1887, under demand for more space, a new building was opened and the two institutions combined to become the Glamorgan County Mental Hospital. Angleton was renamed Glanrhyd Hospital in 1948 and is the only remaining of three hospital buildings. It is currently administered by the Bridgend and District NHS Trust.
