Description
St Matthew's church is located on the north side of the A472 in the hamlet of Monkswood. It was built in Decorated style in 1882-4 to designs of architect E.H.Lingen Barker and replaced an earlier church on the site. A small and undistinguished church, it is built of greenish local stone and Bath stone dressings. It consists of nave and lower chancel, gabled south porch and north vestry. The roof of the nave is arch-braced on naturalistic flower corbels.
