Description
1. In 1937 South Wales & Monmouthshire Dairy Company built a creamery at the front of the Marshfield site. During the Second World War the creamery was closed and used for storing cheese, tinned milk and other foodstuffs. In 1957 the dairy was re-equipped to produce 30,000 gallons per day and was the largest milk bottling site in Wales. The current factory was completed in 1983. It has recently been announced that, as part of recent restructuring, dairy operations will move to a new 'super dairy' at Severnside and the Marshfield site will close in February 2002.

3. 'Two firms have provided employment in the village. One is the Unigate Dairy opened just after the war when it was known as Cambrian United Dairies. It was rebuilt in 1983 when modern technology made many workers redundant. The other was the Ansells Brewery distribution depot.' [see nprn 417242]

4. The 1947 Ordnance Survey 6in map shows an un-named but recently erected complex of buildings at this location and on the 1972 1:10,000 map the buildings are annotated 'Dairy Depot'; the site has since been built over with housing (by 2012).
