Description
Inigo Jones Slate Works was established in 1861 and it is possibly the last surviving example of a fully operational slateworks in North Wales. The works produced school writing slates when it was first opened and it later concentrated on slabs and fancy work. The site includes a surviving set of slate-enamelling kilns that were once common in quarries and independent slab mills.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd editions of the historic 25-inch O. S. maps, published in 1889, 1900 and 1918 respectively, show that water was stored in a pond some 300 metres to the east, and carried to the Works by a wooden trough aqueduct which passed over the main road by the northern buildings, where there was a large waterwheel driving the machinery. The aqueduct became a hazard to road users and was removed.
