Description
An early-C19th, brick-built, rendered, 3 & 1/2 storey, terrace house, one of three with shops to ground-floor front. No 1 was demolished as unsafe in 1975, while the others survived to be refurbished as part of the Maritime Quarter.
No 1 had four classical columns framing a central shop-front window and flanking doorways. The shop-front had a vertically sliding panelled shutter, including a row of glass panels along the top. The whole shutter was lowered to basement level when the shop was open (information from Bernard Morris 2003). A similar example of this shutter shop front is at 18, Queen Street, Carmarthen (NPRN 17750). Geoff Ward, 10/03/2003.
