Description
Lower Pentre is a farmstead with a 17th century core. The four-bay timber-framed barn (NPRN 97782) with wattle infill is broadly contemporary with the 17th century farmhouse (NPRN 81386). (RFS/2001)

The farmhouse, remodelled in the 18th century is L-plan, two storeys with attic. It has a slate roof to the west side, asbestos sheeting to the east. There is a random arrangement of windows mostly under crude stone hood moulds. A more formal arrangement on the west gable has an attic window and a row of doveholes in the apex. There are mullion windows of diamond section survivingh on the first floor to the front and rear. Internally, there are principal partition walls of post and panel construction although only one, in the dairy, is visible. There is an exposed ogee-moulded beam in the dairy, and exposed thick-set and closely spaced chamfered and ogee-stopped joists in the two easterly rooms. There is an ornate 17th century doorhead between these two rooms. In the central room is a partially concealed large ovolo moulded fireplace lintel. The end room was partitioned off in the 18th/19th century and a corn drying kiln built into the chimney alcove (this has largely been removed by recent alterations). TThere are flagstone floors and early wide floorboards.

The farm range adjoining the house has stables/byre set at right angles to the house. This was part of the house in living memory and two blocked doors denote the position of a former passage. The cowhouse has central transverse feeding passage, boarded partitions forming stalls and calves cott, and low wooden mangers.
