Description

1. Pont Lluest-Wen is a nineteenth century single-carriageway humped-back bridge shown on the first edition of the county series Ordnance Survey map, probably replacing a ford, which is also indicated on the map. It is constructed from snecked rock-faced stone, and has a single span with a segmental arch. Its abutments are splayed outwards. The deck is stone paved and the parapets are partly missing. There is no bridge here on the 1844 Tithe map but the present structure is said to have replaced a bridge shown on a 1770s map.

2. 'The old bridge has suffered much vandalism in recent years, with many coping slabs removed, and several large boulders have been placed on it to deter off-road vehicles' - Paul Davis, 2020

3.  A restoration of the bridge was sponsored by the council as a Job Creation Project and work commenced on 31st March 1979 with funds provided by the Manpower Services Commission. The completed bridge received a Prince of Wales award.
