Site Record

Quarry for the extraction of Twrch Sandstone which covered an area of approx 500m E-W x 250m. The was begun after 1877 as it does not appear on the 1st edn 25" O.S. Map, but does on the 1904, 2nd edition. By 1918, it is labelled as 'Old Quarry' on the 3rd edn 25" O.S. Map. There are also remains of a former tramroad which linked the Penderyn Quarries to the ironworks at Hirwaun (nprn 40381).
