Description
Built during second phase of building at Margam Abbey in C13. It supported an upper storey which was probably a bridge leading to the monks' dormitory. 3-bay vaulted structure built of roughly coursed stone with quoins. Represents a rare survival of a medieval monastic building in S Wales. Remains include an arcade of three pointed arches with low impost bands surviving to apex level; E piers built into N-S walls which suggest possible corridor or range beyond; quadripartite ribbed vaults to W and central bays with scalloped corbels between the vaults supporting chamfered ribs.
