Description
1. A strip of steeply sloping ground set above the western bank of Ffrwd Cynon, extending about 100m north-south, depicted as waste on the 1842 Tithe Map, is shown as an enclosed mixed coniferous-deciduous wood on the OS County series (Cardigan XXXIV.10 1888): within this area a terraced pathway can be traced for about 36m, descending from the field on the west & north & climbing to aviod steep slopes, before disappearing in a briar patch.
Original planting is apparently represented by single examples of a spruce, a beech & a scots pine: possible conifer stumps can also be observed; alder & hazel may represent 'farmland trees', although holly, represented only by juvenile specimins, may have been a deliberate introduction.
These features may be connected with the garden & plantings associated with Pontfaen House (Nprn307626), about 150m to the south.

Part of:
Pontfaen core holding (Nprn307450).
