St Mary Magdalen's Church is oriented almost east to west, and consists of a nave and chancel in one. The south transept is known as the Giler Chapel, and at the extreme east end is a south porch and a north vestry. The church is believed to have been founded as early as AD 440. It was mentioned in the Norwich Taxation of 1254. It was repaired and enlarged in 1503, and restored in 1874.  It is thought that wall paintings were whitewashed over as part of the restorations.
