Description
A c.5.0km disused tramway running down the Nant-y-Pandy valley, connecting Moel Fferna slate mine (Nprn308669), Deeside Slab Quarry (Nprn308670), & the Deeside slateworks (Nprn309751) to the Llangollen & Corwen railway.
Only the c.2.1km section between Deeside Slab Quarry & Deeside Slateworks is depicted by OS County series (1875), where it appears that the line is progressing northwards. This section is thought to have been built in the 1850s. It was laid with wooden rails with a thin covering of sheet iron to the gauge of 2ft 6inches, and retained these rails until passing out of use c.1945. It was worked by gravity, with empty waggons being hauled back to the quarry by horses.
