Description
This substantial, early-mid 18th centry, stone-built and slate-roofed, six-bay combination range is aligned from south-east to north-west and has unusually thick walls of 71centimetres. It is situated parallel and a short distance across a former yard from the present farmhouse's south-west front. It consists of a two-bay former hay-shed at the south-east end and a two-bay corn barn at the north-west end which flank a two-bay stable or cow-house with loft over (See sketch note of plan and photos). The softwood roof trusses are replacements of c1900, although other timbers are original. It is situated parallel and a short distance across a former yard from the present farmhouse's south-west front.
The hay-shed has been converted to a barn with ventilation slits and opposed doorways for a threshing floor and a later part loft. The stable/cow-house has lowish transverse ceiling-beams with timber manger and stalling for three horses to each side, or six pairs of cattle. There is a window to the front and rear with a central front doorway. The north-east front has an external oak beam with mortices, indicating that the timber is re-used, or it originally had a wickerwork wall (the wall under is secondry). The corn-barn has opposed threshing-bay doorways and a ventilation slit opening to each wall.
