Description
The Breakwater Quarries, Holyhead, opened in 1860, with the brickworks being operational by 1924. The quarry ceased working in 1974. The site is approached by a long mineral railway, of which some track remains, however, none of the internal tramway survives. The site comprises a pre-1900 crusher house (NPRN 40523), a stone abutment (NPRN 40526), a post-1900 crusher house (NPRN 40522), an office/canteen (NPRN 40524), a brick kiln complex (NPRN 40520), a crusher house complex of C19 and C20 origin (NPRN 40521), a storage shed (NPRN 40527), and some reservoirs (NPRN 40525). The buildings are all in a ruinous state.
