Merchant House is a landmark three storey listed Grade II building located on Bute Place in Cardiff Bay. The building was formerly a Post Office on the ground floor with offices above. The elevations are generally of face brickwork with dressed stone features to the main entrance portico, and the ground floor storey to the East and North elevations. The roof is of mansard construction, with slate finish to pitched elements. There are numerous high level chimneys. The roof perimeter is hidden by a feature dressed stone parapet on the East and North elevations, with traditonal eaves to the West elevation.
