Site Record

The site of the reservoir and its elaborate 'arch', at the bottom the the Conduit, is marked as a well-head on John Speed's map published in 1610. The stonework is said to date from 1890 using stone from the gaol which closed in 1878, but it incorporates an ashlar shield from the previous well-head dated 1777 with the arms of the Powis family.
