Roughly square in plan: the front (east) elevation is 2.5m wide and stands 2.3m high, tapering towards the top and resembling a truncated pyramid. An opening 660mm wide and 740mm high gives access to a horseshoe-plan chamber.
Local traditions holds that the well was used by monks travelling to and from Strata Florida Abbey, some 7km to the east.
