Description
NAR SJ16SW8
St Cynhafal's Well was reputed to cure warts. It is mentioned in a poem written on the cusp of the Reformation. In its present form the well chamber is modern and can be associated with the reconfiguration of field boundaries and drainage depicted on the 3rd edition OS County series (Denbigh. XIV.11 1912). The former layout, with a pool below the spring, but no apparent structures, is shown on the earlier editions of 1875 & 1899.
The well chamber is a vaulted construction about 6.0m by 3.0m. The lower part is drystone walled, the upper, including the vault, is brick. The waters are reached by a flight of stone steps that descend some 3.0m.
