DescriptionNAR SH64SW2
Ffynnon Vrothen is mentioned by Lluyd in about 1698. A later account describes a well, walled on three sides, built on the eastern bank of the stream near the church. This might be the structure depicted on early editions of OS County series (Merioneth. XI.6 1889, 1900, 1916). This was a rectangular building some 6.0m by 3.5m, apparently fed from the stream. However, this has two small yards attached and may be a pigsty.
The modern well some 16m to the west, mentioned in this connection by the OS, is not depicted before 1916.
