Description
This is a telephone call-box situated below the mountain rescue post at the pass over the Brecon Beacons, Storey Arms, in an exposed location on the hillside set back from A470 road (north-east side) and behind the track to the Mountain Rescue Post. It is on a concrete plinth in a grassy bank. It is a K6 type, red, cast iron kiosk, to the standard design of GG Scott (1936). This example dates from the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The foundry plate is inscribed: "Carron Company, Stirlingshire". It has a domed roof with four lunettes containing embossed crowns over red lettered opals and ventilation slits. There are raised surrounds to the sides and door with marginal bars to the horizontal glazing. It has a blank rear and moulded plinth. It was listed for its remarkable landscape location high up in the Brecon Beacons overlooking Glyn Tarell.
