The pump is one of two in the town (the other is on Arthur Street), which were installed as part of the Earl of Powis' modernisation of the town's water supply in the 1870s. The central panel has segmental-arched raised border around a large spout surmounted by an earl's coronet, with the date 1876 in the lower corners. A long iron pump handle is attached to the right side.
