Two levels were sunk in the 1830s and the Main Slope opened in 1854. The mine also produced clay for the nearby brickworks. The mine ceased production in 1927.
The mine is shown in some detail on early editions of OS County series mapping (Monmouth. XXIII.10 1882-1920). There are now scant remains, although the arched level entry and fan-house survived until recently.
The Square, below the mine, is a fine example of an earlier nineteenth century worker's housing (NPRN 407416).
