Type Of SiteLEAD MINE
PeriodPost Medieval
Description1. Little remains except leat.
2. The mineral deposits here are thought to have been prospected & exploited well before the main period of workings, from about 1760: noted by Meyrick (1808) as the richest silver mine in the county; in 1857 it was stated that the mine had been run sucessfully for 50 years: closed in 1862.
There are traces of shafts and tips by Nant Clydogau; mine buildings, converted for agricultural use were noted in 1979: a leat and pond noted on the Tithe Map may be preserved by hedgelines and the marshy hollow at SN62885118: the leat running above the site (Nprn33623) is thought to relate to this mine.
