Description
Greaves Wharf and Oakeley's Wharf are adjacent slate wharfs on the north-west side of Porthmadog Harbour. The wharfs are mentioned in 1856 and are depicted on the 1st edition OS County series (Caernarvon. XXXIV.16 1889). This shows in some detail the complex rail mesh that serviced the wharfs.
Several original buildings survive. The eastern half, Oakeley's Wharf, has a long warehouse (NPRN 23235) that forms the boundary between the two wharfs, with the manager's house and office to the north (NPRN 16619). Greaves Wharf, the western half, has a warehouse (NPRN 23219) and two cottages (NPRN 26540) in a single range, and the manager's house and office (NPRN 26591).
The 180m long battered quay wall is built of regularly coursed dressed stone blocks.
