This is the Rocket Shed attached to the Watchtower coastguard station (NPRN 34287) in Watch House Bay at the entrance to Barry Harbour. A rocket shed is depicted on early editions of the OS County series (Glamorgan. L.8 1879, 1900). This was a small square structure and the building first appears in its present form on the 3rd edition of 1920.
The Rocket Shed is a single storey stone walled building with a wide cambered doorway in its western gable wall. It would have housed the rocket apparatus used to fire rescue lines to vessels wrecked on the coast.
