Description
Ynysgedwyn incline engine-house stands at the head of the Ynysgedwyn incline and was built in 1832-34 by the engineer John Brunton as part of the Claypon's Extension Tramroad of the Brecon Forest Tramroad. The engine itself was made at the Neath Abbey Ironworks but has now gone although part of its cylinder base may lie buried. The remains comprise a ruined basement with Pennant sandstone rubble revetment walls, a chimney on the east and a winding rope tunnel (nprn 80119) to the west. The incline went out of use in the 1860s and most of it survives as an earthwork.
