Description
Ty Brith, Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, is a large, half-timbered, three-unit storeyed house, with a mid-Victorian refacing in stone and brick on its main Eastern front. The house is an early example of a lobby-entry plan, with the resited front door likely to have been opposite the internal fireplace originally. The roof structure survives largely intact above the first-floor ceilings. Each rests on a box frame apart from the central truss over the hall which is a remarkable hammer beam with cusped struts and panelled supporting walls. The end gables and walls are elaborately infilled with herring-bone strutting, with the South end wall having a bracketed and jettied gable. The house was once the home of the poet, Simwnt Fychan (ca. 1530-1606).
