A house has existed on this site since the C18, but much of the work of the present house is 1850/60's with early C20 alterations. The SW end of the house comprises the earliest work of simple rubble, but the remainder is of snecked rubble; the roof is slate with rubble stacks. The earlier work is represented in a single storey SW entrance front of ten bays with gabled dormers and sash windows. To the right is an extraordinary 3-bay timber porte-cochere. There is a further 2-storey gabled SE cross range, with attics; Gothic style, with a 5-light transomed and mullioned window.

The hall was owned by Capt Best in 1891, a keen enthusiast of sheepdog trials.
Gasworks were only marked on the 1874 OS map.
