Description
Supposedly the oldest building in Ruthin, 2 Well Street traditionally survived destruction by Owain Glyndwr in 1400. (Cadw).
The two storey projecting gable is probably the crosswing of a medieval or 16th century building. The ground floor walls are of stuccoed stone, with exposed timber framing above. The studding is close spaced below the tie, with heavy jointed corner posts; above the tie-beam is square framing. The rest of the frontage (to the right) is single storey with an attic and dormer window.
The set-back shop front (adjacent on the left; no.4 Well Street, nprn 35561) is 19th century and may have been the site of the medieval 'hall' section.
