DescriptionThe hall was built 1882-84 to the designs of John Douglas of Chester, in 'Tudorbethan' style, of red Ruabon brick on a limestone plinth and with sandstone dressings, under a complex, gabled steeply-pitched roof of red tiles. A four-storey tower with a pyramidal roof housed vast water tanks and a turbine-driven electricity generator and batteries providing lighting for the hall.
