Description
A c.1.0km stretch of possible Roman road, part of RR642 (Nprn305906) Caersws - Caer Gai (Nprn92468, 95436).
The road, apparently represented by discontinuous & rather disparate earthworks, runs generally N from SJ06691559 to given NGR, whence two possible lines present themselves:
i. continuing to run N, to SJ06761639, where it turns NE in its descent across N-facing slopes, & is last seen at SJ06601651;
ii. running NNE to SJ06841646 descending the N-facing slopes directly, then turning rather to run NNW as it crosses a watercourse & possibly NW, indisctinct features continuing its line as far as SJ06781662.
A c.100m NE-SW linear feature, centred on SJ06351535, c.300m SW of the S-most end of the recorded segment, represents a trackway depicted on OS County series (Montgomery. XIV.5 1887).
