Description
The corn mill which gives its name to the settlement is a three-storey building with an L-plan. It is constructed from red sandstone rubble, and both wings have hipped slate roofs. The principal front faces north-east to the road, and had a central boarded doorway approached by steps which gave access to the 1st or stone floor. There is one internal water wheel for driving the corn milling machinery, and one pitchback wheel installed c.1929 formerly used for generating electricity. Some of the internal mill machinery survives and is incorporated into the conversion to domestic use. A weir across the Berthyn Brook was used to provide water to the mill in a 540m-long leat, which also supplied the nearby tannery (nprn 309706).
