Description
Suggested line(s) of Roman road segment; part of RR69b (Nprn303520).
OS County series (Merioneth. XX.2/6 1889) depicts three segments of 'Sarn Helen' running generally NW to SE-SSE:
i. a c.100m NW-SE segment; SH71223576 to SH71303569;
ii. a c.100m NNW-SSE segment; SH71373565 to SH71413557;
iii. a segment c.40m in length & 6.0m wide, running rather to the E of S, centred on SH71553511:
the map depiction of this last segment is unusually deatailed.
Bowen & Gresham (1967: Merioneth I, 249), suggest a crossing of the Afon Prysor near Wern-gron & point to a c.1.0km run of field boundaries, extending SSE from Bryn-golau (SH71763489 to SH72103393), to meet the known Ffridd Glap segment (Nprn300006) at SH72223378: possible sections of road are visible immediately N & S of field barn, at SH71933440, however many tracks are shown here on OS County series (Merioneth. XX.6 1889).
