Tan-yr-allt-isaf is situated parallel to the road, on a platform just above the flood plain of the Afan Aeron, one of a group of three cottages of similar period.
It is a clay-built (clom), formerly thatched, 1 ? storey, traditional cottage, once of end-chimney & end-entry plan (now a lateral entry) with rear lean-to and in-line former cow-house at upper-end. It is probably late-C18th in origin with alterations of mid & late-C19th. On the 1839 tithe map & apportionment it is shown as a holding of 14 acres owned by the nearby vicarage and in its present plan form it is shown clearly on the OS 6" map of 1889.
