    The seaside village of Ogmore-by-Sea grew rapidly from a few buildings in 1840. In 1920, the Parish of St Brides Major was divided into three Wards: St. Brides Major, Ogmore-by-Sea, Southerndown, prior to this the village was known as Sutton.
